GROUP 3 win for Romeo Primo

The V12 Pedigrees' mating plan Romeo Primo, wins the GROUP 3 Betfred Nationwide Trophy at Nottingham, UK - defeating top UK dogs Fear Haribo (Group 1 Scottish Derby) & Shaneboy Luke.

A just reward for Romeo Primo who missed 12 months of racing with a broken pelvis in a heat of the CAT 1 (Group 1) Produce Stake as a 1/16 fav. At the time Romeo Primo was one of the UK's top up and coming puppies.

While Romeo Primo was the star of the litter. It also produced the 7/4 favourite for the CAT 1 Produce Stakes Final in Fabulous Millie.

All in all one of V12 Pedigrees' top draw mating plans! And yet another GROUP winner for V12 Pedigrees!!

V12 Pedigrees star Kalden Fury retired!

The owner of Kalden Fury has called it a day for the V12 Pedigrees' bred Kalden Fury. From the humble beginnings of Kalden Fury's dam Fancy Blonde being advertised on the internet (www.globalgreyhounds.com) for breeding lease, after a failed litter to Royal Assassin. To V12 Pedigrees snapping her up as it's launching pad into pedigree consulting - putting her [Fancy Blonde] to an unfashionable, if not despised sire in No Intent. Resulting in one of the most consistent race dogs seen in Australia the past two or three years. Racing and winning against top grade opposition, to well over 4 years of age. V12 Pedigrees' will forever take pride in it's achievement for breeding such a fine racing greyhound.

Big Daddy Cool x Complete Puzzle

Bechini Jackson Leeson are proud to annouce the arrival of 4 dogs & 4 bitches from the breeding of Big Daddy Cool x Complete Puzzle.

Big Daddy Cool - needs no introduction, as a leading sire, who unfortunately has just been retired from stud duties, due to fertility issues. As fate would have it, Big Daddy Cool's progeny have been on fire the past 6 months. Making it a tragey the sire has been retired in his prime.

Complete Puzzle - comes from a sensational litter, which consisted of 4 quality "city" class performers - three of which were Group class performers as well (see below)

It's official Henny Hughes is a CITY winner!

The rags to riches story spoken about in an earlier V12 Pedigrees' blog (May 2008) posting is complete. With Henny Hughes winning in the "city" at her second attempt - winning at Cannington, Western Australia in a very respectable 30.68 (Best of Night 30.62).

In short, Henny Hughes came about through my defending the worth of Moral Standards introduction into Australia. An owner of a legless Moral Standards broodbitch, Robs Queenlee (Moral Standards* x Lady Queenlee) - 22 starts 2-0-4, disatisfied with Moral Standards, challenged myself to breed something worthwhile with Robs Queenlee. And haven't we just...a $3,050 to-the-winner "city" win no less.

Robs Queenlee had produced little more than a country winner in her two previous litters. Showing firsthand the importance of pedigree, when attempting to breed successful racetrack performers.

Promising start for V12 Pedigrees

Of the 14 litters of racing age for V12 Pedigrees in Australia, UK & USA - for the those statistically minded:

11 out of the 14 litters have performed at city, open, Grade A class. That's a 79% strike rate.

Of those 11 litters - 7 have performed at Group winning, Group placing, Group contesting, feature winning, feature placing, feature contesting level. That's a 50% strike rate.

1 other litters got to A3 (UK) grade...the equivilent of 3rd grade/Grade C - with still racing time available. One other litter only had 2 pups and they lost the pups before racing age.

No wonder clients have returned for further breeding plans!

Bargain buys...

How many breeders can actually say the dogs they sell make a profit for their new owners? It is with much satisfaction, dogs sold by V12 Pedigrees' do in fact make good profit and most importantly give much enjoyment along the way. Some of the bargain buys from the V12 Pedigrees' stable include:

Henny Hughes (sale price $6,000) - this speedy and honest chasers' record currently stands at 22 starts 4-6-2 for $5,000 in prize money. With her either first or second in almost 50% of her starts to date and not 3yo 'til June 2009. A foregone conclusion Henny Hughes will recoup her sale price and then some.

Magic Manbo (sale price $1,500) - won a TAB feature race final, won and placed at Wentworth Park, Gosford, Richmond for $20,000 in Prize money. Magic Manbo finished with the record of 70 Starts 15-13-15

Quoting his new owner Dennis Mead "best dog we've owned in 20 years, even considering putting him to a brood of ours such was his genuine nature" - not bad for a $1,500 purchase.

Side note: Magic Manbo is a litter brother to the V12 Pedigrees' bred Kalden Fury...2006 & 2007 W.A.G.O.T.Y runner up, multiple feature race winner of $245,000 prize money.

Maribyrnong Girl (sale price $10,000) - went on to amass $25,000 in prize money including winning a heat of the Group 2 QLD Futurity and multiple city & TAB wins. Not to mention her value as a commercial broodbitch. Already whelping two litters and earning further dollars for her new owner.

Quoting her new owner Peter Dutton "Let me tell you she is worth every single cent and I a was rapt to be able to get into these bloodlines - Brett Lee x Heart Spark - not too shabby and a young bitch that was already an Albion Pk and Gold Coast winner...So Sooty is one great little bitch and I must thank Darren for the opportunity to buy her, not to mention changing my mind and convincing me to keep her with Tony." end quote

Lookout for the next sale, you just might find yourself another handy racer like others above have.

Complete Puzzle confirmed in pup

The Bechini Jackson Leeson breeding consortium are pleased to announce former Group class racebitch Complete Puzzle in pup to soon to be retired stud Big Daddy Cool.

Complete Puzzle is a member of a very smart litter, the likes of fellow Group race finalists Little Bit Shy (Wentworth Park 29.92, Dapto Oaks, Group 3 Nowra Puppy Classic) & Silver Bull (Group 1 Vic Peters Memorial).

Unfortunately for connections, Big Daddy Cool is to be retired from stud duty, due to fertility. A crying shame, with presently his offspring taking the world by storm. At time of writing Big Daddy Cool has the heir apparent Australian staying star in Varvatos. Along with his first Irish crop making big waves in Group 1 competitions - the likes of Pre-post favourite Timor Blue in the G1 Irish Puppy Derby and fastest round 1 winner Cabra Cool in the G1 Irish Laurels.

Depending on numbers some of the Big Daddy Cool x Complete Puzzle litter will be for sale.

Governator returns from injury...

Didn't take long for the ultra consistent V12 Pedigrees' mating plan Governator (ex Top Honcho) to return to winning ways after an injury enforced lay up. Romping home his OR at Hove (UK) by 6 & 1/2 L in a nippy 27.96 (TR 27.47).

Lemonfield Daisy into another Group race Final

The V12 Pedigrees' ultra consistent mating plan, Lemonfield Daisy (ex Droopys Agassi), makes her way through to the Group 3 Ladbrokes August Festival 416 Final. The Group 3 race is one of 3 big finals on the Monmore (UK) card - supporting the Group 1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup & Group 2 Ladbrokes August Festival 630.

LEMONFIELD DAISY'S FEATURE RACE RECORD

R/up GROUP 2 Blue Square Sprint Final as 9/4 fav - won heat & semi-final;
R/up GROUP 3 Ladbrokes Summer Sprint Final - won heat;
Finalist GROUP 3 Ladbrokes Autumn Festival 416;
R/up Mark Alan Sprint Cup Final.
Finalist Dual Distance Cup

HKF Hammerhead wins Grade A (USA)

Another Grade A performer for V12 Pedigrees' and breeder Richard Knauff. With HKF Hammerhead (ex Lonesome Cry) winning his Grade A at leading American racetrack Tri-State.

Back in 2003, breeder Richard Knauff took a chance on V12 Pedigrees' recommendation of Gable Dodge for his broodbitch Tiawah Easymoney and was rewarded with a litter full of Grade A performers. With HKF Jade winning a whopping 31 races at leading American track Palm Beach.

That's 2 mating plans out of 2 for Richard Knauff and V12 Pedigrees'...a big congratulations to Richard!!

Never ending debate - ability v lack of...

Debate rages on and on whether a broodbitch with race ability outperforms a brood with lack of raceform. Obviously a brood with some ability or better will be bred with before a brood with no ability at all - therby increasing the odds in that broods chances of producing. But one thing that is undeniable - broods with no apparent ability do produce outstanding offspring. The fact the broods in this catagory are too numerous to mention - negate much of the opposing argument and continue to fuel breeders dreams of realising what numerous other opportune breeders have achieved - top class racers.

When you look at an outstanding broodbitch in Hall of Fame racer National Lass. Sure she proved a champion on the racetrack and as a broodbitch. But her first litter to Brother Fox, as you would expect, sold for big money. However, never set the racetrack on fire.

Her [National Lass] second litter to Pretty Short faired much better - producing the very fast feature race winner DENVER. But it was her 3rd and 4th litters that really made a name for National Lass as a broodbitch.

National Lass' 3rd and most successful litter to Worth Doing (ex Brother Fox)produced dual Group 1 winner and sire LITTLE DENVER - along with Derby Finalist and sub 30 sec winner National Hand, National Dingaan etc.

Her [National Lass] 4th litter to Amerigo Man (ex Brother Fox) also proved highly successful - with Group 1 winner National Leader, National Night & National Bobby.

National Lass' 5th litter again to a son of Brother Fox and litter brother to Amerigo Man - Carnival Boy, a failure of a sire, still produced Group race finalist Little National. Suggesting it was more the quality of National Lass than Carnival Boy, that saw a successful progeny born.

Which begs the question why was National Lass' first litter to Brother Fox unsuccessful, yet to a number of sons of Brother Fox, extremely successful? The most obvious answer muct be pedigree and something many layman just don't seem to realise the importance there of!

Another example on the other side of the globe is Catunda Sanna (IRE). As a racebitch in Ireland, she won the one race from 15 starts for prize money of €63 (AUD$100). Yet as a broodbitch has thrown Group class greyhounds in nearly all her litters - Borna Magic [ex Split The Bill (AUS)], Killough Tale [ex Just The Best (AUS)], Killough Glen [ex Toms The Best (IRE)]. I mentioned nearly as to the immortal Token Prince (AUS) - the top class broodbitch Catunda Sanna, threw absolutely nothing of note! The fact she [Catunda Sanna] threw her best offspring to Australian sires, further emphasises the point, pedigree is the vital ingredient when choosing a sire for your valuable broodbitch.

Simply best to the best is nothing more than hoping for the best eg. Brother Fox x National Lass & Token Prince x Catunda Sanna. As these examples have shown, particularly with Brother Fox beeing National Lass' first mating - a broodbitch is worthy of being bred with a number of times to find that vital pedigree match!

Ballymac Ruso sets the time standard

Roanokee sire line Ballymac Ruso sets the time standard for round 1 of the €310,000 2008 Paddypower.com Irish Derby. A son of Ballymac Maeve (ex Roanokee) and littermate to Group 1 winner Ballymac Under, Ruso showed exceptional pace to defeat the very game Headley's Bridge by 3/4 of a length in a sensational 29.68. It is very apparent the Roanokee sire line is putting that vital "speed" element into its offspring.

Roanokee sire line - under the radar?

Roanokee was undoubtedly a class greyhound on the racetrack who transferred this to his offspring. Resulting in some outstanding race dogs and potential sires. Which is exactly what we are seeing in 2008.

Already through his son No Tail Told, the Roanokee sire line has produced the Group 1 Scottish Derby winner - Fear Me. Through another sire son Ballymac Maeve, boom greyhound Ballymac Under also a Group 1 winner. With a further two sire sons at stud in the USA - Team Record & Swahili Eile. What of other Roanokee sired sons? In particular the brilliant Scarty Lad.

Scarty Lad the winner of 29 of his 52 race starts - including the Group 1 Kingdom Derby. Along with a track record run at Tralee. Is it time through Scarty Lad to see the Roanokee sire line as more than a non-commercial sire line.

Breaking down Scarty Lad's pedigree - he's by Roanokee winner of the Group 1 Melbourne Cup and multiple Group 1 sire. A sire line as previously mentioned already responsible through two different branches of numerous Group race winners. Out of adam sired by leading sire and peerless damsire Spiral Nikita. With his [Scarty Lad] grand dam sired by successful sire Joyful Tidings. His [Scarty Lad] 3rd dam by the immortal I'm Slippy, 4th dam by the immortal Sand Man and his [Scarty Lad] tail dam line tracing back to the highly successful Silver Hope aka Millie's Hawthorn dam line. Is their a more commercial pedigree available to breeders?

Rags to Riches

From the wilderness to semi-finals of the $10,000 to-the-winner Eric Thompson Memorial that's the story of HENNY HUGHES (Benny's Toll x Robs Queenlee).

On the 21/3/2003 a topic for discussion "Future Brood Sires" was posted on leading greyhound website www.globalgreyhounds.com

The question: Which sires will be the next generation champion DAMSIRES...I think within the next 5 years, at least half of the following DOGS will be in the TOP 5 broodbitch sires in AUSTRALIA.....AWESOME ASSASSIN - BIG GINGER BOY - BLACK SHIRAZ - BOBNIAK - HEADING WEST - HOTSHOT - LANSLEY BALE - LIGHT OF FIRE - PROPER TEARS - TOKEN PRINCE...possibly only HEAD HONCHO will hold them out, and of course, JUST THE BEST will be the emerging "star"...what do you think......................................Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

The debate:

Already

Black Shiraz (Gozzo Peppi)
Moral Standards (Primo Uno)

Darren Leeson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

MORAL STANDARDS has no chance...he did not serve enough bitches, of those that he did, a lot didn't survive...I know BLACK SHIRAZ already has winners but I am forecasting 3-5 years ahead, when all the named sires are well represented...there is one litter by MORAL STANDARDS out of POLLY'S PORTRAIT (primo uno)that I do predict a star broodbitch to come from, perhaps SPLASH OF COLOUR could be special................................Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Ray..quality over quantity isn't too bad either..DAGENHAM a magnificient case in point..not a champion dam sire..??

With classy bitches in PROVEN DREAM, JENS MORALS/Venga Express, TRIMORAL GOLD/No Way Gloria..can see Moral Standards being a classy dam sire..as we already know Primo Uno isn't a bad advert for his start as a dam sire.

Darren Leeson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

GEE

And I gave my Moral Standards bitch away

Noelene Bolton
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Noelene Bolton...you are not "robinson crusoe"...................................Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

FORWARD to 27/9/2004

With some 19 months having past and still short of the 3-5 year mark...thought I'd bring this topic up and see or add to previous thoughts. How are things looking?

Black Shiraz and Moral Standards have been going alright for me. Black Shiraz was a no brainer but Moral Standards has thrown Proven Lethal and the smart Endless Pit / No Way Out

Darren Leeson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

FORWARD 17/12/2005

On MORAL STANDARDS

And unfortunately one of the worst sires inflicted upon us...Ok he is turning out to be an Ok maternal grandsire...so what! Dont 90% of them do that.
Gee whiz if you people want to "burn" a generation in the hope of getting a handy dog, that is your perogative I guess...seems like taking 2 steps backward to go 1 step forward to me ...Why wouldn't you use one of the current topline imports in preference, at least you might get something that could run...oh well to each his/her own.

Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Still can't give Moral Standards the respect he deserves as dam sire? To say he has performed just OK, to my mind is understating it! How many Moral Standards broods would have actually been bred with...surely only a handful and look at the OK results..............GROUP and FEATURE race wins.

I see Primo Uno has another smart pup in Turbo Uno (what a run from last in 30.34) and it doesn't take EINSTEIN to look at the pedigree and see MORAL STANDARDS is having alot of say in this blokes pedigree.

Darren Leeson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

No, you are wrong, I still don't give MORAL STANDARDS any more repect than he deserves...which is, good riddance!! But as I said, to each his own.
Why doesn't he have many brood bitches?? or for that matter, why did people stop breeding to him, come on the dog was very very dissapointing, and that is being kind to him...there are 100 similar stories of past imports out there with equally similar success'statistics as broodbitch sires, why dredge up the past and bring back bad memories from past disasters, when newer, fresher, and hopefully better options are available...let's face it, the racetrack performance of their progeny could only be an improvement, they could hardly be worse

Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

And you don't think some people out there won't get a dud litter from SPIRAL NIKITA and from it a broodbitch sensation? Why should they breed that useless SPIRAL NIKITA brood anymore than the useless MORAL STANDARDS brood? That's right from what you've been telling us...he's a broodsire sensation.

Darren Leeson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Well all I can sayis...I will take my chances with some of the new "kids on the block"...those that wish to search for semen to MORAL STANDARDS and look for bitches by him are welcome to their choices.
I always prefer the "win win" situation where the track takes precedence and the breeding barn is in the next classroom...if you can't get success on the track why wait 5 years to see if the experiment "may" work, but hey, like I said, to each his own...and you are right...I am certainly no EINSTEIN, practicality will do me just fine.

Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

This is a very interesting discussion in the light of Farloe Melody's recent success as a broodbitch sire.

From memory most breeders stayed away from FM because his breed were brilliant but enigmatic, lacked early speed, you know, all the usual excuses, when they don't ping out like Brett Lee and run track records.

However, given everyone's love affair with the Hallucinate litter you'd think breeders would stay away from them due to the FM blood inherent in same.

Therefore, what I see is breeders being fickle and short-sighted, because those that kept their 'useless' bitches by FM & MS are being rewarded in a big way at the moment.

The same happened a generation or two ago with Curryhills Brute and Grove Whisper. Whilst their males were not competitive enough to produce any stud dogs of lasting quality their presence is staggering in the dam lines of some of our great dogs that we using as sires today and paying big bucks for.

That is not to say that bitches by Spiral Nikita, Larkhill Jo and other top of the line imports won't make their mark or a better mark in the future.

My point is if a breeder had faith to go to the import with their valuable colonial bred broodbitch why did they lose faith a generation or two later.

Surely, the reason they went to the import in the first place was to diversify the blood and introduce hybrid vigor for a future generation.

Hopefully, in the future lessons will be learnt and even if some of these new imports don't fire as great stud dogs that a greater % of their bitches will be retained by breeders for the future.

I'm no expert or criticizing anybody's breeding decisions, I'm just trying to comment as I see it.

Sandro Bechini
_____________________________________________________________________________________

I used Moral Standards on a bitch that had thrown multiple city and tab winners to Grove Whisper. The Grove Whisper litter all won races. The moral standards litter won three races including a maiden at Moss Vale in 30.92. I gave the only bitch in litter away and she has been bred with and I think might have thrown the winner of a couple of country races.

Anybody want her for breeding get in touch with me and we can arrange it

P.S. Her mother was by Amerigo Man x Kylie Bale

Noelene Bolton
_____________________________________________________________________________________

I agree that now we are blessed with greater options with well proven foreign sires and the impact on the breed can only be positive.

I can understand the frustration of some breeders who did go the next step and breed from a MS or FM bitch and got nowhere.

However, to counterbalance there were plenty of Brother Fox, Waverly Supreme & there will be plenty of JTB, AA & BL bitches that will throw legless ones.

Sandro Bechini
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Breeders don't get any smaller than me-i've just bred my first litter.
I went to Spiral Nikita for one reason,to(hopefully) set myself up for the future as far breeding stock is concerned.
To be honest,if i am going to do this right i can't afford not to look long term.
I've been lucky to get a top racebitch, who at the time was unproven-she has well and truly changed that in the interim.
I spoke to plenty of people on this forum, and all were of the same opinion-Spiral Nikita is a brilliant broodbitch sire, with the talent to throw top class race performers.
The outcome was one bitch, five dogs-all big and healthy.
Would have liked more bitches, but am very grateful to get one.
Anyway, the outcross opens up so many future options that i can pick and choose which dog i use.

Scott Jackson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

In this instance however, they are not correct about MORAL STANDARDS (unless it can be proven otherwise)...I cannot sit back on here and see anybody talked into breeding with or buying from a bitch, simply because she is by MORAL STANDARDS, because it could well be a case of "in spite of him, not because of him"... I have followed this dogs career very closely since he arrived in Australia and he has been a rank failure, sure he has the odd broodbitch that has thrown a good dog, but who hasn't...his average in this area would be woeful in comparison to other sires IMHO (but I am prepared to stand corrected). I venture to say the Clive Burrell would love to turn back the clock and refute all the rave reviews he gave this dog, he just about recommended every 2nd client of his to go to the dog, it must have sent many people bust or close to it (maybe even Clive)...a contacted a very well respected and high profile breeder in the UK about the failure of MORAL STANDARDS in Australia, the confidential reply was this..."Ray I think that it was an absolute disgrace to send this dog to you people, after his pups hit the ground here he should have put away and kept as a pet", now these people could be wrong, and so could I...but I think not.
The purpose of my entering this thread was to give reasons why NOT to go looking for bitches sired by this dog unless they one of the proven successful few, that's all...nothing more, nothing less.

Ray Brown

Still waiting for all those people who really think Moral Standards bitches are the way to go. Offer to breed with one is still open but I haven't had any takers as yet
Sire Moral Standards Dam By Amerigo Man x Kylie Bale

Noelene Bolton
_____________________________________________________________________________________

You say she has thrown country winners-why the hell would anyone want to breed with her.
I don't remember reading that any bicth by Moral Standards should be bred with, regardless of ability.

Scott Jackson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Scott
How do you know what ability she had(she was a multiple tab winner) and it might have been the choice of sire that produced the country winners.
I just thought Darren Leeson was so rapt in all Moral Standard bitches that he would have jumped at the chance

Noelene Bolton
_____________________________________________________________________________________

I think that you have read it right too Noelene

Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Noelene
Silly comment-if she had any ability you wouldn't be so keen to get rid of her!
People call Brett Lee a sensational sire, that doesn't every dog he throws can run.
Darren has called Moral Standards a sensational dam sire-doesn't mean all his daughters will throw.

Scott Jackson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Ray,
I know Noelene.
She does know her way around dogs but that doesn't mean she's right.
I disagree with her,end of section.

Scott Jackson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

I know what Darren said...and I will say this for the last time even though it is not sinking in, what/who you believe is your business.....
MORAL STANDARDS is one of the worst sires ever imported into AUSTRALIA

Ray Brown
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Scott
I am not talking about imports in general just Moral Standards. Didn't you notice I used Grove Whisper with great success before Moral Standards.
I gave the bitch to friends to race after she had won two at Richmond for personal reasons, but according to you that makes her no good.I was rapt in Moral Standards too otherwise I wouldnt have used him and still have his video, but I now agree with Ray after experiencing the result.
You may believe I am wrong but I believe I am right

Noelene Bolton
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Well if you're offering her up...at least let's have her name, raceform and the litters she has already had, if any?

Darren Leeson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Any Moral Standards fans want to team up and breed the bitch and take a pup each from the litter...get in touch.

Darren Leeson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Darren
What stud would you put her to?

Scott Jsckosn
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks Scott was about to ask that question myself. With all the advice from these breeding gurus I might breed with her myself and get my own litter of group winners.
Its just that I don't study the pedigrees and can't pick the right sire, thats why I'm a failure

Noelene Bolton
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Noelene, who did you use the first time?
If Darren was using the right dog i'd be interested in his little scheme.

Scott Jackson
_____________________________________________________________________________________

If you guys want to go to November Fury or Stately Bird I'll be in for one pup

Sandro Bechini

Gee,i loved NF as a racedog.
Can't remember seeing a harder chaser, andhe was just so unlucky.
Definitely one of my fave's.
I'll be in.

There's 2 - who else is willing to put their money where their mouth is?

Noelene, seeing you own the bitch, you are entitled to at least one, if you want it.
